Black Butler - 04 by Kanasaiii Black Butler - 04 by Kanasaiii
Decided to post my prop photos because I really enjoy making props and there's a section in DA for them :XD:

Had to choose between the manga & anime version of Grell's chainsaw, I did spent a day studying the manga version before deciding that it was too frustrating to work on it because the refs were inconsistent.

Proceeded to work on the anime version, which I actually fancied more because it had a steampunk-ish look to it and has boootiful motifs XD Although I got more than what I bargained for when I started working on it.

The whole thing from blueprint drawing to completion took 12 days, which is a record for me considering how slow I am usually. It also turned out to be the most complex prop to date that I ever worked on, the whole darn thing had over 200 parts to it. It was like building a warship.

Though some parts aren't perfect, and the colours are not what I wanted, nevertheless, very happy to complete it. Hope you guys like it as much as I do too

This is an amazing piece of prop work! I agree wholeheartedly with the difficulties of making the manga version. >.o;;;

Did you use an actual chainsaw chain on this?

ah, I get to be Grell and decided on the chainsaw. We're going for a small toy looking one, but I wonder if it's better to go for a more realistic one?

Hey can I ask like how did you do the so-called chain on the chainsaw? Thanks in advanced :D I LOVE YOUR CHAINSAW.

Kanasaiii Featured By Owner Jun 8, 2010  Hobbyist Artisan Crafter
The chain bits were seperate little pieces cut out from acrylic and stuck on with UHU glue, not the best way to do it but I wanted it to look the part more than anything and so I did it this way XD

Hope this helps and thanks so much for loving it ^^b

Oh no, don't give me so much credit, the pieces were measured and drawn in an application. And sent to a machine to cut the acrylic. I did not do the cutting! ^^

Good luck with your chainsaw if you're making one :)

Hihi, sorry for the late response! This prop was made from scratch, only the acrylic parts were cut in a workshop by a friend.

I paid for both the acrylic and the cutting costs, and I have to trace the artwork that allows the machine to follow as it cuts the acrylic. Hope this clarifies! :)

Don't be surprised if I do, cos I once made over 600 medicine pills out of craft dough for 6 glass bottles for a prop. XD

I'm just super glad for this I didnt have to. *relief*

Good luck with your EOY grell! Very good mindset of starting earlier! :)

To state the obvious, that is Amazing!! The detail is phenomenal.

I wanted to ask, how big did you make it all? I'm about to start (trying) to make my own Grell chainsaw, and I was wondering how big to make the blade and the box?

Hello *__*

So just going to say (although you've heard it 2354284 times before) that this prop is AMAZING!

I have a quick question though. I read that you went to a shop to get the 'teeth' of the saw cut out. By any chance do you know what those types of shops are called? and are they made from wood?

Also, did you draw on the black circles, stickers, etc?

(is a perfection whore sorry lol)
Thank you very much, sorry for the questions :3

I'm using your pic as my reference! tytytytyty

I saw that you said that you're retiring the entire costume. Any chance you'd be willing to sell the entire costume along with the chainsaw? I like collecting cosplays/costumes to display at my comic store. Of course I'd put a little sign with your name everything so you get credit. Would you be interested?
